Markers Menu

The functions in this menu affect markers that are selected in the Timeline or in the Project Bin. Menu functions are available depending on whether a clip is selected in the Project Bin or in the Timeline.

The menu allows you to Add, Edit or Delete Markers or Timeline Markers (Guides). For more details see the section about Markers in this documentation.

Note The Add Marker function behaves differently depending on whether a clip is selected in the Project Bin or in the Timeline and where the playhead is currently and whether the focus is on the Timeline or the Clip Monitor.

Add Marker Quickly

Adds a new marker at the current time point. Shortcut Num+* (On Numlock pad: *)

Add Marker

Adds a Marker to the clip at the current timepoint. Markers are properties of the clips in the Project Bin. So this action puts a marker in the clip in the Project Bin.

Note In order for the Add Marker to work a clip must be selected in the Timeline. You can create multiple Markers in the markers widget for the clip selected in the Project Bin independent of the Timeline.

Add Markers by Category

Opens a flyout to add a marker by category:

Edit Marker

For this to work the playhead needs to be right on top of a Marker. If it is not you get an error on the bottom left “No Marker found at Cursor time”. Use the Left and Right keys to move the playhead one frame at a time, or use them with ALT to jump to the next or previous edit point (for example cuts, clip edges, Markers and Timeline Markers).

As Markers are properties of the clips in the Project Bin, this action changes the Marker from the clip in the Project Bin and thus in any other instance of this clip in the Timeline.

Delete Marker

For this to work the playhead needs to be right on top of a Marker. If it is not you get an error on the bottom left “No Marker found at Cursor time”. Use the Left and Right keys to move the playhead one frame at a time, or use them with ALT to jump to the next or previous edit point (for example cuts, clip edges, Markers and Timeline Markers).

As Markers are properties of the clips in the Project Bin, this action removes the Marker from the clip in the Project Bin and thus from any other instance of this clip in the Timeline.

Delete All Markers

Deletes all Markers from the current clip.

As Markers are properties of the clips in the Project Bin, this action removes the Marker from the clip in the Project Bin and thus from any other instance of this clip in the Timeline.

This will delete all Timeline Markers from the timeline without any further warning. Use Undo or Menu ‣ Edit ‣ Undo or Ctrl+Z to undo this action.

Add/Remove Timeline Marker

This will add or remove a Timeline Marker (Guide) in the Timeline at the current position of the playhead. Default shortcut: G

Edit Timeline Marker

This will open a dialog window for the current Timeline Marker (Guide) where you can change the position in the Timeline, the name and the category.

Delete Timeline Marker

This will delete the Timeline Marker (Guide) at the current playhead position.

Delete All Timeline Marker

This will delete all Timeline Marker (Guide).

Timeline Markers Locked

This will lock the Timeline Markers (Guides) in the Timeline so that specific actions do not move the Timeline Markers.

Search Marker

This will bring the focus to the Search field in the Marker widget.

Export Markers

This will open a dialog window in which you can specify the export options for Markers. Use this function to create chapters for YouTube uploads. *[RGB]: Red Green Blue *[VFX]: Visual Effects *[feathering]: Smoothing or blurring the edges of a feature *[LFO]: Low-Frequency Oscillation *[dB]: decibel *[LUFS]: Loudness Units Full Scale *[AI]: Artificial Intelligence *[LLM]: Large Language Model *[HSV]: Hue, Saturation, Value *[SOP/Sat]: S(lope), O(ffset), P(ower) / SATuration *[CDL]: Color Decision List *[HSL]: Hue, Saturation, Lightness - Using HSL color space is useful for subtle color changes *[px]: pixel *[hh:mm:ss:ff]: hours:minutes:seconds:frames *[Hz]: Hertz *[CIE]: Commission internationale de l'éclairage, French for International Commission on Illumination *[DCI]: Digital Cinema Initiative *[nadir]: direction pointing directly below a particular location *[OS]: Operating System *[decibel]: Unit of measurement (dB) for sound levels *[clipping]: A form of distortion that limits a signal once it exceeds a threshold *[Spectrogram]: Visual representation of the spectrum of frequencies of a signal as it varies with time *[prevent clipping]: Dynamic range compression (DRC)is an audio signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud sounds or amplifies quiet sounds, thus reducing or compressing an audio signal's dynamic range. *[SNR]: Signal-to-Noise Ratio *[dbFS]: Decibels relative to full scale *[QHD]: Quad-HD *[UHD]: Ultra High Definition *[XML]: Extensible Markup Language *[fps]: frames per second *[NTSC]: National Television Standard Committee - defined the TV system used in the United States, Japan and many other countries *[PAL]: Phase Alternating Line - a colour encoding system for analogue television *[LFE]: Low Frequency Effects *[RAW]: The RAW file format is digital photography's equivalent of a negative in film photography: it contains untouched, raw pixel information straight from the digital camera's sensor *[DSLR]: Digital Single Lens Reflex *[DOF]: Depth of Field *[NDF]: Neutral Density Filter *[AVI]: Audio Video Interleave *[BT.601]: A standard from 1982 defining how RGB color primaries get turned into the YCbCr channels used by modern codecs *[BT.709]: A standard from 1990 which does the same at BT.601 but the transfer coefficients are slightly different *[grep]: A Unix command-line utility for searching plain-text data sets for lines that match a regular expression *[MLT]: Media Lovin' Toolkit - An open source software multimedia framework designed and developed for tv broadcasting *[SD]: Secure Digital - a proprietary, non-volatile, flash memory card format developed by the SD Association *[SFX]: Special Effects *[VBR]: Variable Bit Rate *[HD]: High Definition *[GUI]: Graphical User Interface
